JMD:1 DEMO SOUND by Norifumi Shima
Japanese

Norifumi Shima is the guitarist and leader of ‘Concerto Moon’, one of the key bands of the Japanese heavy metal scene. He used to play a 1959 but now uses a VintageModern 2466. His empathy with his 2466 creates an awesome sound all shredders adore.
As an ambassador who is very familiar with Marshalls, Norifumi Shima demonstrates the JMD:1 and proves that this amp is definitely a prime candidate for heavy metal fanatics.
We proudly distribute his amazing performances to heavy metal music lovers all over the globe.

    RECORDING INFORMATION
Norufumi Shima plays 3 demo songs here. He plays two takes of each song and sets the JMD100 as shown in the graphics posted throughout the demonstration.
The songs are;

  1. Jack Torrance Balance
  2. Metal Consummation
  3. Dice With Death
JMD100
  • All songs are recorded with a JMD100 and 1960B cab. Guitar and picks are shown in the photos.
  • He uses a distortion pedal all the time during the recording but not to get a distortion sound, only a clean boost to the amp's input. He sets the gain on the pedal to almost zero (0) and slightly boosts his guitar signal with the pedal’s output volume alone. This enables him to get a good solid sound with fluid sustain without having to use excessive volume from the amp itself.

  This has more emphasis in the lower middle range than the sound I usually play with.
I think it sounds a little bit like a combo amp and the combo sound is kind of more compressed.
The gain is rather low but that compressed feel helped me to play like usual.

  This is the same type of character as Crunch 8 but has more in the upper middle range.
Even though the gain is low, Crunch 8 is easier to play for me because it has more edge.
I like the middle range but it is tough to get that ‘stickiness’ with Lead 13 because it dominates
a little too much at these frequencies. It became a challenge playing it. I think Lead 13 is
a naughty younger brother of Crunch 8.

  The feel is similar to Crunch 7 but Overdrive 9 has more high mids. This type of sound is
optimum for fast songs like in the demonstration. As I hold the high middle range of my amp
(VintageModern 2466) dear, I found Overdrive 9 very comfortable to play!

  This distortion is the least aggressive of all the demonstrations and because of this the sound
retains lots of clarity. The initial attack is very strong and I believe its biting sound suits
the solo in this song. I tend to use this level of distortion as standard in my own rig.
Anyway this is the sharpest sound to be found in the demos.

  This is a kind of ‘scooped sound’ which has a weaker middle range, the opposite sound to the
Overdrive 9 demo. I could describe it is a modern distortion. My favorite sounds have a richer
middle range, though, as I tune the guitar a half step down for the backing, this kind of sound
matches it when I play the solo. In fact, it is usually hard to get this sound with an all valve amp.
The sound cuts through very well. The JMD:1 shows what a digital preamp is really capable of.

  This is an improved sound of Crunch 8. It is easy to get this sound on an amp with the help of a
graphic EQ or similar. It can be really tough to do that with the ordinary EQ on a valve amp. Actually,
creating a good scoop sound is a big problem even if we cut the middle completely,
it is still not enough. The JMD:1 can create such a sound easily and express the valve feel;
that is an ability and an advantage of this model !
